Commercial car insurance holders in the UK may soon be offering Nissan's new electric vehicle (EV) - the Leaf - after it was announced it will be manufactured in Sunderland from 2013.
The decision is "excellent news" for the automotive industry, according to Kate Hudson, press officer for the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
She noted that the number of jobs that will be retained across the supply chain will be extremely positive for the economy and it proves the commitment of the sector to ultra-low-carbon technology.
With plans already being discussed to make a giant electrical hub in London, she remarked that Britain could become one of the biggest markets for EVs.
It may interest commercial car insurance holders to know that a tax incentive is just one of the proposals that are being considered to ensure that EVs are affordable, Ms Hudson stated.
And she added: "There is definitely a drive to increase that appeal."
