An ERN number (also known as Employment Reference Number or a PAYE Reference Number) is a unique reference number that is given to every business that registers with HMRC as an employer.
You’ll need to supply your ERN when you buy employers' liability insurance or have it included as part of your insurance package. The Employers' Liability Tracing Office (ELTO) database helps employees identify their past employers' insurers using ERNs. This is in order to identify which firms an employee has worked for, should they make a claim against you.

If you did not supply your ERN details when you purchased your insurance policy, enter your ERN details in the form below and click submit at the bottom of the form. You can find your ERN, also known as ‘Employer’s PAYE’ reference on any HMRC documents including tax forms, payslips, P45s or P60s.
