Busy barbershop

The rise of barbering

14 March 2019
There are fewer industries in the UK that have grown to the same extent as barbers, with vaping shops being the only other popular start up business in 2016. It is predicted that barbering will continue to grow for at least the next 5 years. Although a change in how training is funded has led to a drop of around 25% for apprentices in the hair industry, barbers are still confident that their trade will continue to thrive.

Barbering has seen a phenomenal rise in the last 5 years, becoming a billion pound business, creating thousands of job opportunities and providing a stable industry for years to come.

Our three pieces of advice to keep your business growing are:

Embrace social media

Keep in touch with clients, book appointments and show off your work using social media, which has been proven to be a powerful advertising tool.

Keep up with trends

Make sure that you can perform the newest styles for your customers. You can do this as easily as watching videos on YouTube, or you could look for some training courses at local colleges to keep you up to date.

Don’t be a conveyor belt

Clients are more likely to come back if you give them a memorable experience. Getting through a cut in 10 minutes might mean that you can fit more clients in, but taking the time to build a relationship will give them a reason to come back.
